Our Mission

The mission of the Vanderburgh County Extension Homemakers is to strengthen families through continuing education, leadership development, and volunteer community support. If you are looking to experience personal growth, make a difference in your community, and meet new friends, the Vanderburgh County Extension Homemakers are looking for you!

Our History

The Vanderburgh County Extension Homemakers have a history that dates back to the early 20th century. Established as part of the broader movement of home economics education, the organization aimed to provide women with resources and support in managing their homes and families.

In 1914, the extension homemaker program began in Indiana, focusing on empowering women through education in areas such as nutrition, home management, and family health. Vanderburgh County was among the first to adopt this initiative, helping women connect with one another and share valuable skills.

Over time, the organization has evolved incorporating new educational topics and community service projects. Members have engaged in activities ranging from gardening and cooking to volunteering in local initiatives, reflecting the changing needs of their community.

Today, the Vanderburgh County Extension Homemakers continues to serve as a vital Resource, promoting lifelong learning and community involvement among members while fostering leadership and personal development.
